Ofcourse, today’s mom has accesss to a ton of imformation through all the possible channels and hence is so savvy and knows exactly what is good for her child but does that mean that she can do everything is good for her child? The constriants that she operates within are also plenty. One of the first challenges she faces is ‘Breastfeeding’
Dr. Asavari Dongre, Gynecologist who shared her perspective on Breastfeeding and its benefits actually gave us a ton of information of the challenges of breatsfeeding and how they can be overcome. We probably all know that breastfeeding is great for a baby’s immunity. It also protects against allergies, sicknes and obesity and several other diseases. But I had no clue that breastfed babies actually score higher on an IQ Test….
Besides the baby, the benefits to the mom are also plenty; from loosing their pregnancy weight to reducing the chances of breast cancer, breastfeeding takes care of it all.
When we millenial moms have all this info about breastfeeding, we obviously want our babies to have the best but again, is it that easy? Although it’s great to breastfeed, is it easy to find a place to feed when in public? Millenial moms are not the types to stay within doors but our culture is not yet open to breastfeeding in public. Finding a secluded place in public may not be easy and also may not be comfortable for everyone.
That’s when a breast pump comes to the rescue of the new-age mom. It actually took me back to my nursing days when I went no place without a breast pump. I actually took to a breast pump to stimulate breast milk supply. But the benefits of pumping are many! You can actually go back to a near normal worklife and not deprive your child from breastmilk. Even stay at moms can store milk and get their partner to feed the baby at times to get the much needed rest. Thus the mom’s bond with baby strengthens through breastfeeding and the dad through his participation in the intermittent feeds. I remember times when I fed every hour during growth spurts and its exhausting. Help from family in the feeding process can really be useful.
Besides helping in stimulating supply, a pump comes handy when the baby is unable to latch or in case of premies. Even the issues of engorgement due to the baby oversleeping etc can be taken care of through breastfeeding.
Choosing a breastpump may not be easy but one of the feature of the Little’s Comfort Manual Breast Pump caught my eye; the SFR technology which allows each mother to adjust the pump’s suction level according to her own body’s response and allow finding her own best suction strength. So that it helps mothers to express more milk. Each woman is unique and thus ‘one size fits all’ may not work well. Some moms have very sensitive nipple and therefore would need the lowest suction pressure whereas as some would need a higher suction pressure for expression of milk.
There are 5 levels of suction pressures which can be adjusted as per mother’s individual need. It also has two modes of expressing milk – stimulation and expression. This helps mothers to express more milk naturally. It’s great that amamzing products like these are made keeping in mind the individulatity of moms. The post partum period is an extremely tough time for moms and anything that can reduce the pressure without compromising on the baby’s well being is remarkable.
