With the plethora of attractive baby toys available, new parents, are firstly always excited to buy new toys for their babies and secondly, always confused about what to buy. The result being that we end up buying too many toys which our babies use for a very short period of time and then, just sit in the toy bin. I did not have the best experience with toy-buying. Infact I don’t think I bought any of my babies favourite toys, they all were gifted to her.
What worked the most for her was her Fisher-Price Kick and Play Piano Gym. I had never though a playgym could be so useful. We put her in the play gym at 1 month of age and she loved it. She used it all the way through her first year.
Initially she would just hit the piano with her feet. Later the mirror became fun for her and then the hanging toys. When she could sit, the piano came into sitting position and she would love to play with it. Later the hanging toys became her bath toys.
Every part of the play gym was used to its fullest and the best thing about it was once I put her in the play gym, she would remain occupied for a good 15-30 minutes which would help in finishing my chores keeping an eye on her.
The ELC Chime Bell Bee was Tania’s favourite diaper bag toy for the longest time ever. She loved it so much, I actually made her a similar outfit. It’s a soft soothing toy rattle, just ideal to carry along.
The Fisher Price Shape Sorter was another great gift. At first she threw the pieces around and got happy. Then we taught her the concept of putting things inside something with the help of this toy. She then learnt to put the pieces in through the right mesh. An awesome toy which she was happy to play with every day.
I would say, that it makes most sense to buy a few good quality toys with longevity, rather than just spending on collecting small junk. In fact, household items work best as toys cause for a baby any object of interest to her becomes a toy. Spoons, boxes, hair brushes, tooth brushes etc have proven to keep her most occupied. When you look around, you will find several safe articles in the house that will become your baby’s favorite toys.
