I think I am mastering the trick of taking happy holidays with my baby!! I’m back from a week-long fun trip to Rajasthan, feeling refreshed like one should be after a holiday, very unlike what I went through the first couple of breaks I took with my infant Tania. The entire deal, I believe, lies in packing smart- which means you should have what you need and a little bit more BUT not too much. Certain travel-friendly products can make a big difference to your holiday with your tot as they will smoothen your holiday and throw up a lot of time. The other critical thing is to start packing a couple of weeks ahead of travel so that you need to do only a little everyday which helps in reducing the pre-holiday fatigue .Further maintaining separate kits with travel-size packs of daily necessities is another thing which significantly shrinks the packing ritual. I keep these kits ready, so every time I travel, I just have to throw them in. Three must-haves at all vacations
- A travel friendly stroller
Something light weight and easy to fold could be extremely useful. I used a stroller the most while travelling and hence my personal recommendation is to focus maximum on this aspect while buying a stroller. A bulky stroller could drive you nuts on a vacation. If your daily stroller is not travel friendly, one could invest in a separate umbrella stroller which is quite inexpensive and easy to maintain . My personal favorite is the Chicco Lite Way Basic Stroller which can be used as your daily stroller as well as your travel stroller. My other low cost favorite is the Cosco Umbrella Stroller which can be kept as a travel stroller Your baby’s naps which are typically a huge issue on holidays get taken care of if your baby learns to nap in a stroller. Most babies eventually do!!
- A baby carrier or sling
I used the Babybjorn Baby Carrier . A baby carrier or sling is highly recommended since it helps you cruise along so much more easily . Filling out forms, picking up your baggage etc becomes much easier.
- A light weight portable travel cot
If your baby is used to sleeping in a cot, this could be your magic mantra. Just ensure that you get your tot to sleep in the portable cot a week ahead of your holiday. This works wonders since your baby has her familiar cozy corner which she is used too even away from home. The Chicco New Born Portable Cot is a pretty easy to maintain travel cot which one could try out.
