The options available today are so many and unique, it’s just about figuring where your child interest lies. My conversation with Mitali Kamat on various topics led me to something so new and unique, I was amazed!
She has the franchise for a ‘Fire and Safety Programme’ from TUV Rheinland NIFE which she runs out of her center in Andheri, Mumbai which trains young individuals to become safety officers which is a requirement in most companies today. NIFE is a vocational training company with a range of innovative programmes while TUV Rheinland is the parent based out of Germany. The certification is a Diploma in Fire safety offering both part-time and full-time options. Just a few years back, none of us would have even heard of this but when she mentioned this to me I remembered my analyst days where I had visited DLF Park in Gurgaon where they had taken us through a safety drill process and had laid so much importance on this aspect of safety and quality of officers needed.
When she told of the 6 digit payscales for this profile, I was completely bowled over into thinking that one really needs to think away from the normal cliché’s and look for these off-beat options which can take you places!
She gave me an example of a Ubaid Parker, A graduate of commerce who had taken up this course. His first job in 2013 was at Rs8K/month, next job in 2014 was at 20k/month. In 2014, he got a job 170k/month and his current salary for the same job is at Rs300k/month!!! All in a span of 4 years.
This course is a dream for engineers struggling to get a job and the best part is that the course is now available for women as well.
The Diploma is a unique programme open to all 10th pass students which focuses on industrial safety, fire technology, construction safety, design and installation of fire systems.
The requirement of these officers internationally has been there for a while now but the last decade has seen a strong pick up in India as well, with companies aligning themselves to international standards and these requirements are only going to increase. Mitali, being an engineer herself with a vast repository of experience behind her identified the potential and took up the franchise for this program 5 years back and since then has seen the student strength increase from 40/year to 100/year. The placements rate is 100% and the companies where the students have got placed include GVK International Airport, L&T, Shapoorji Pallonji, Airtel, Reliance Infra and a ton of other leading companies.
Each student is given personal attention and to ensure quality, the batch size has been restricted to 10-12/class. Again, the course is extremely advanced with each classroom being equipped with a computer to show videos for better understanding of the course.
