Summer can be a pretty difficult time for your baby’s appetite and therefore one needs to incorporate foods and alter recipes to ensure that your little one is comfortable through the heat wave. Also, keeping your baby hydrated through the summer should be your top priority, which is the key to ensuring good health through the summer. Here are some food tips that will be of help.
1. Add green leafy vegetables like spinach to your khichdi
Green leafy vegetables like spinach are high in water content and ideal for the summer. You can make a paste of spinach and onion and add it to your khichdi. Onion is also great to beat the heat.
2. Fruit and vegetable yogurts are great as snacks or meal accompaniments to beat the heat
Add summer friendly fruits and vegetables like strawberries and cucumber to yogurt. Yogurt is excellent in the summer and berries and cucumber are also cool in nature. On days when your baby is not in a mood to eat, this can also be used as a meal.
3. Bananas can be given in different ways
Bananas are also cold in nature and help reduce intestinal heat. They can be given in different forms like frozen bananas, smoothies and milkshakes.
4. Try avocado
Avocado is a great summer fruit and a nutritional powerhouse. Ripe, mashed avocado mixed with cream cheese is a great snack and meal.
5. Keep your baby hydrated
Ensure that you give your baby a little water every hour. If the sippy cup does not work, use a spoon. You can also give other drinks like a little watermelon juice diluted with water, or some fresh-lime water or some fresh coconut juice.
6. Give several small meals
Give small frequent meals as heavy meals can make a baby uncomfortable just like how we get after big meals. Also be innovative – for example, hot meals may not be appealing to your baby at times, replace them with cold fruit yogurts or smoothies.
7. your baby skip meals
Typically the heats kills a baby’s appetite so does not force-feed if your baby refuses to eat. If your baby wishes to eat a fruit instead of a full meal, be flexible.
